Color Guard spins into next season with auditions

In preparation for the upcoming season, the Color Guard held its annual “audition,” or clinic, in the Small Gym on May 24 for interested members to attend. Available for students of all grades, performers showcased dance and flag basics and taught two short combinations.

The two-hour audition afforded incoming members with experience spinning a flag and provided practice for returning members.

“Auditions went great,” instructor Tony Crapo said. “The turnout was wonderful. I hope that word spreads and even more people decide to be a part of this wonderful group.”

With both returning and incoming members, 40 students attended the audition, which is the largest number of people the Color Guard has ever had. As many as 46 might join the group next year.

“I only see having more members as a positive,” Crapo said. “It makes our group more visually appealing and gives us the ability to make more dynamic visual impacts.”

Band director Seth Jones echoed Crapo’s sentiment.

“I think Crapo is looking to find someone to help out in the fall,” Jones said. “I think it’s awesome that we have more members.”

Crapo believes that “as always, the guard holds a great deal of potential.”

“There’s a lot of returning members who have worked really hard this previous year so we’re coming from a good place,” Jones said.
