The boys’ water polo team suffered its first loss of the season in a close 11-10 game against Wilcox on Sept. 22.

The Falcons are currently 2-1 and ranked second in the El Camino Division. Sophomore utility Stephen Cho led the offense with eight goals and two others were scored by juniors hole set Neal Siganporia and driver Tyler Tanaka. Although the team lost the game, players emerged with mixed feelings.

“We played really well and we easily could have won that game,” senior driver Eric Wang said. “We improved and it was a good game overall for us. It gave us the confidence that we can beat any team in the league.”

The team also won 13-11 over Santa Clara on Sept. 20 but felt that the game could have been played better despite the victory.

“We didn’t play to our full potential, but I thought we showed a lot of heart and we didn’t give up,” Wang said. “Ultimately, all that matters is that we pulled out the win, but it also showed our flaws as a team as well as a need for improved team chemistry.”

Cho scored seven of the thirteen goals while Siganporia and Tanaka each scored one and senior driver Tyler Borch and sophomore Cameron Borch each scored two.

Although the team managed to score often, the Falcons were still unsatisfied with their offense.

According to Cho, the team made bad passes, had the ball stolen and often missed scoring opportunities. Wang believes that the team needs to work on shooting from the outside and increasing mobility for a better offense.

The team’s next big challenge will be at home against rival Lynbrook High on Sept. 29.
