The five main characters of the show are science geeks Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter, their equally geeky friends Rajesh and Howard, and an attractive woman down the hall named Penny. Penny is a foil to the geeks because of her superior social skills and her average level of intelligence, a contrast that provides an entertaining element to the show.

The jokes and smart remarks of the geeks are intellectually stimulating and witty, and even if they are not comprehensible by the average audience, they add on to the fun.

The geeks display their humor when they try to pick up women with their socially awkward moves and random fun facts, which tend to repel all the women.

Throughout the show, Penny tries to help the geeks fit in with the average crowd by attempting to rub her social skills off on the geeks. However, to her dismay, she can never change their dull personalities.

The beginning of the current season shows the physical separation of Leonard and his girlfriend Priya, who moved back to India for a job opportunity. Despite the distance, Leonard and Priya still try to preserve their relationship, but face many temptations.

Though the plots of the show can get repetitive at times, the jokes remain original and manage to please. Overall, the show can be amusing for all audiences, proving that no, you do not need to be a genius to get a good laugh from this show.
