Students, parents, teachers and siblings piled into the cafeteria for the 12th annual Souper Bowl on  April 28, held later in the year than usual, but nevertheless, a huge success. By the end of the night, all of the bowls made by the ceramics students were sold out.

Students in the advanced ceramics class as well as Los Gatos High’s ceramic class participated in setting up at the event and cooking bowls of homemade soup, cooked by volunteers and ceramics teacher Leah Aguayo.

For a $10 donation, those who attended the Souper Bowl  got a handmade ceramic bowl, refills of vegetable minestrone, creamy potato corn chowder, black bean soup, or chicken noodle soup, a drink, and bread rolls.

Freshman Cindy He, a student in one of the beginning classes, attended this event for the first time and helped make the posters advertising the event around the school.

“I loved helping out with the event and the soup,” He said. “In addition, the chips and salsa were amazing.”

Aguayo said that she loves being able to hold the Souper Bowls each year, believing that it adds something special to the school.

“It builds a great sense of community at the school,” Aguayo said.

Senior Marissa Phi, a member of the Advanced Ceramics class, crafted several bowls that were sold to customers at the event.

“I made so many bowls I lost count,” Phi said.

The money raised by the Souper Bowl will go to the ceramics classes for special needs projects and to those who can’t afford the $55 material fee in ceramics.

“I think [the Souper Bowl] a great way to bond with others and eat delicious soup,” senior Irene Chen-An said. “I definitely want to return next year.”
