As the second quarter of the Homecoming football game against Monta Vista came to a close, attending students held their breaths as English teacher and commentator Erick Rector began reading out the names of this year’s Homecoming Court.

After reading out the majority of the names, Rector paused for dramatic effect before crowning seniors Ishaan Bhandari and Derek Hsu as Homecoming’s Monarchs, the gender neutral replacement to the traditional title of Homecoming King and Queen.

The rest of the court was announced on the first day of Homecoming Quad Day on Monday, Sept. 20, and comprises seniors Andy Chen, Aidan Costello, Macey Hartmann and Cheryl Wu; juniors Julian Berkowitz-Sklar and Jeremiah Chung; sophomores Taylor Chu and Eva Semin; and freshmen Juhi Karamcheti and Anisa Taymuree.
