Amid the spread of the COVID-19 virus, President Donald Trump and his coronavirus task force have placed new stricter guidelines to prevent transmission within the community.
The new rules recommend for Americans to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people, to avoid eating and drinking in bars, restaurants and public food courts and to start schooling from home. This approach, as conveyed by National Institute of Allergy and Infections Disease Director Anthony Fauci, is aggressive but also highlights that these regulations only apply to the next 15 days.
“It’s important for the young and healthy people to understand that while they may experience milder symptoms, they can easily spread this virus, putting countless others in harm’s way,” Trump said in his March 16 press conference.
As of this moment in time, Trump doesn’t think that a nationwide quarantine is necessary but the situation is still pretty fluid and can change at any time. This statement came after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention started to recommend that for the next eight weeks any gatherings of more than 50 people including conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings and other types of assemblies should be canceled or postponed.
