After the freshman class officers were elected in early September, they met with the current senior class officers on Sept. 14 to discuss the duties of being an officer and managing the ups and downs of the Homecoming process.

The freshman officers felt that they benefitted greatly from the guidance of the senior class officers on how to go about planning events in the coming years.

“They gave us some tips on decorations, class profile pictures, and Homecoming overall,” freshman site council representative Julia Deng said. “They also gave us insight into how to use manage our money wisely for the events in the next few years.”

Seniors guided the freshmen through topics such as organizing decorations and coordinating dance practices. The conversation also encompassed details about how to improve the overall execution of the Class of 2019’s first Quad Day.

“I think that Quad Day will definitely run better based on the new things we learned [at the meeting],” freshman class president Roshan Verma said. “Now that we know what to expect and what has to be done, we are definitely heading in a smoother path.”

This is the first year that the two groups have met in such a format. Deng hopes it will become a tradition that will be helpful for future classes as well.

“I think that the seniors should continue to meet with each year’s new freshman class just to make them feel more welcome and comfortable with everything new going on,” Deng said.
