The field hockey team’s much-anticipated face off against Archbishop Mitty on Oct. 26 ended in a tight 2-1 loss, an improvement upon the team’s 3-0 loss to the Monarchs on Sept. 30. Junior midfielder Megan Doles scored the only goal for the Falcons, who are now have a league record of 4-4-4.

With only two seniors on the active roster, goalie Abby Williams and captain forward Anna Ashe, players feel like the team put up a good fight.

“They’re the undefeated team in the league and we were ahead at one point,” said sophomore midfielder Sarah Finley, “so that was really impressive.”

In one of the most exciting games of the season, the Falcons won 1-0 against Los Altos on Oct. 19. Ashe scored the winning goal in the last two minutes of overtime. Just as the ball hit the backboard of the goal, girls watching from the bench jumped out of their seats and sprinted onto the field, screaming with joy.

“We’ve been in overtime four times so it was nice to finally win in the end,” junior defender Evelyn Lee said.

The team faced another tough opponent that same week. The game against Gilroy on Oct. 17 resulted in a 0-0 overtime tie.

“I think we put all our energy into the St. Francis game [three days earlier] so the Gilroy game wasn’t as intense. But it was a great game nonetheless,” sophomore midfielder Jennie Werner said.

The first time the girls played league powerhouse St. Francis, they suffered a 3-0 loss on Sept. 21. However, on Oct. 14, the Falcons came back and won 1-0 against the Lancers on a goal by Ashe in the second half.

“Everyone was freaking out. We couldn’t believe we beat them. We could see that their coach was really upset,” junior goalie Vannessa Diez said.
