Field Hockey ends season with drive

The Falcons ended their season much in the same way the rest of the year went: in frustration.

After falling behind Lynbrook 1-0 in the first half of the Nov. 7 game, sophomore midfielder Sabrina Clark scored to tie the game in regulation. In seven-on-seven sudden death overtime, the Vikings were able to get a lucky open shot, resulting in a 2-1 final score.

“Even though it would’ve been nice to win our last game of the season, we played our hardest until the very end, which is all I could’ve asked for,” senior co-captain Risha Shah said.

The girls ended their season with an overall record of 3-8-3. From the beginning, a lack of depth and varsity experience undercut the team’s chances. While the season may have not turned out the way the girls wanted, the team believes they have grown together and learned resilience from their tough circumstances.

On Nov. 5, the girls defeated Los Altos 3-1 in their senior game. In the second half, freshman midfielder Hannah Leonard and senior forward Sana Ali were able to score two goals in the span of just 10 seconds.

Five seniors were celebrated in the senior game ceremony: midfielders Ingrid Hong and Jennie Werner, forwards Risha Shah and Sana Ali, and goalkeeper Lena Jewler.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls to play my last season with,” said Jewler.

On Halloween, the Falcons had a tough 7-0 loss versus rival Los Gatos. A combination of injuries and a rushed warm-up contributed to the poor performance.

In the end, the team fell short of qualifying for CCS playoffs.

“Overall, we had a tough season,” senior midfielder Jennie Werner said. “In our last two games against Los Altos and Lynbrook, we fought hard as a team and wanted to win. I wish we could have played the whole season that way.”
