Classes start to prep for Homecoming week

It’s that time of year again. With Homecoming just around the corner, each class is quickly looking for supplies and a location to begin work on their decorations.

Homecoming, one of the school’s most anticipated and competitive school activities, involves each class vying against the others to win through themed dances and decorations and culminating at the end of the week with a student-picked Homecoming court. At the end of this intense competition, there is a football game and dance.

“We had this big fat list to start with and we put pros and cons next to each of them to cancel out any themes that might not have worked out,” said head commissioner Jennifer Li. “After a really long process, we ended up with animated movies.”

On Sept. 8, this year’s theme was announced to be “In a Land Far Far Away,” with the individual class themes based on the animated movies” Up,” “Finding Nemo,” “Ratatouille” and “Land Before Time.” With seniors getting first pick, they chose “Up.” The juniors took “Finding Nemo,” sophomores took “Ratatouille” and freshmen took “Land Before Time.”

“‘Land Before Time’ seems like a really hard theme because no one’s watched it before,” freshman president Amin Mirzadegan said, “but I’m pretty excited. Homecoming seems like a lot of fun. We already have a house we’re going to work at.”

The Homecoming dance will be held on Nov. 7 this year. Lunches during the preceding week will be spent with each grade performing their quad day and voting for their Homecoming court.
