The girls’ volleyball team wasn’t able to win the St. Francis Tournament but slowly worked their way to the top of the competition.
On the weekend of Sept. 19, they started off the tournament with a loss against St. Francis (18-25, 19-25), who are ranked second in CCS and have only lost one game so far in the season. The Falcons then went on to play Gunn (25-7, 25-11), Carlmont (25-20, 25-16), St. Ignatius (27-25, 25-23), and St. Mary’s (25-19, 25-15). After winning in the tournament playoffs against St. Mary’s, the Falcons then moved on to the championships, finding themselves faced against St. Francis once again. Even though they put up a good fight, they ended up losing (18-25, 10-25) and came second.
“We were playing against really good teams,” said senior co-captain Nicole Gragnola. “It was good practice on what to expect in the league.”
The Falcons then played St. Francis again at a home league game on Sept. 21 and lost (19-25, 17-25, 19-25), and Kings Academy at home on Sept. 22 and won (25-17, 25-16, 25-17). They played Homestead at home on Sept. 24 and won (25-19, 25-22, 25-18). The Falcons also played against rival Los Gatos and lost (25-27, 22-25, 23-25).
