Music Boosters holds annual cookie dough sale

With over 30 varying pastries, students have been offering these products to whoever they come in contact with. This is one of the Saratoga Music Booster’s (SMB) many fundraisers. Music students between grades 5 and 12 had their annual cookie dough sale from Oct. 10 to 24 to fundraise for both SMB and their own travel accounts.

This fundraiser assists SMB in funding for instruments, uniforms, travel and other necessary equipment. Music students also collect money for their own travel accounts, which they can use to offset their travel costs for any music-related trips, like the upcoming Macy’s trip. Students receive 25 cents per dollar after the first $25 in sales for their travel accounts.

“My motivation [to sell cookie dough] is that I need the money for my music account,” said senior Amber Kingery, who sold over 70 boxes of cookie dough. “I want to help my grandparents pay for the [choir] trip to Italy [this summer]. I feel bad that they have to pay for everything I am involved in.”

Along with earning money for their accounts, if a student sells 14 items, they are entered in a $50 cash drawing and will receive a $5 gift card to either Yolatea or Starbucks. The top seller in each music class also receives $50.

“[The prizes] are meant to reward those students who sell a lot of cookie dough and provide some incentive to sell more,” music department chair Michael Boitz said.

The sales provide cakes, cinnamon rolls, brownies and pies along with the cookie dough. Each item costs $17 rather than the varying prices from previous years in order to simplify the process.

“The items vary from year to year,” Boitz said. “Other than that, the sale basically remains the same every year.”

The items will arrive for delivery on Nov. 9.
