Seniors encourage and improve girls’ basketball

Sometimes leadership can make or break a team’s successes. For this year’s varsity girls’ basketball team, the seniors have helped the team to a 9-0 record.

Seniors forward Talia Sisco, guard Taylor Jessen and center Campbell Oreglia have worked to propel the team to victory in each of its league games.

“We aren't much different from last year—we're winning in our league again, and the team bond is just as strong,” Sisco said.

With only three seniors on the team, strong communication and teamwork has played an important part in improving the team’s game.

“I think our closeness is a huge strength; most other school teams aren’t nearly as close as we are and we always have such a good time together,” Sisco said. “Of course on the court we work well together and have each others backs.”

On the court, the seniors encourage their team to work hard until the last minute, a strength that has helped the team win many close games.

“We are really good at finishing games, like if we're down or something we know how to step up and do what we need to do to win,” Sisco said.

The team has had a strong season; on Feb. 3 they beat Cupertino High School 63-26, and just a week earlier on Jan. 27 won against Los Altos High School 44-36. Their toughest game of the season occured on Feb. 10 against Monta Vista High School (for coverage, see

“We are trying to get as far as we can through CCS,” junior forward Kimberly Chou said. “The seniors have been really great with helping us. Talia is our captain and has taken a strong leadership role, Campbell is really big in games, and Taylor is great at encouraging us to stay spirited.”

Aside from being active on the court, the seniors cheer on the sidelines and raise spirit for all the players.

“We motivate the team by being for them when they’re down and cheering them on in games, telling them to keep shooting,” said Sisco. “I feel like a leader and love my team. I don’t want to leave.”
