With more 100 staff members working hard each day, the outreach commission wanted to recognize one staff member each semester for their exceptional dedication and efforts.
The commission already has a Teacher of the Semester award, but they wanted to add an additional award in order to highlight the work of staff members who aren’t teachers.
“There are so many staff around campus who are not teachers but still doing such amazing work that we all need to take a moment to appreciate,” said senior Stacey Chen, a member of the commission.
Besides teachers, ASB also considers janitors, electricians and non-administrative staff members in the running for Staff of the Semester.
The commission will seek advice from the Leadership class and its adviser Matt Torrens. In addition to the guidance from the Leadership class, the commission is seeking student input to get a real sense of why a particular staff member should be nominated and what kind of help or resources they bring to the school.
This semester’s winner will be revealed in early November, they said.
“We are hoping just to let the person recognized to know that we see them and we are thankful for the amount of work they do and for always helping out,” Sarin said.
