Red Ribbon Spirit Week, organized by the Leadership class, is taking place for the first time on Oct. 27-31. This week is geared toward educating students to make better decisions when it comes to using drugs and alcohol.
Data collected by the Project Cornerstone survey revealed that 65 percent of students feel safe at home, school and the neighborhood.
According to junior Leadership class member Chester Leung, the week will be all about saying no to drugs.
The week will consist of a different dress-up theme that encourages the idea of anti-drug use each day.
On Monday, students will wear a team jersey to “team up against drugs.” Tuesday will by tie-dye day so students “don’t get tied up with drugs.” On Wednesday, students will “put drugs to rest” and wear pajamas. Students will be decked out in plaid to show that “drugs are bad.” Finally, Friday is Halloween, and students will go dress up in their Halloween costumes to “scare away drugs.”
The Leadership class hopes this week will bring awareness about drug use by teens and gain participation from many students.
