The school's History Bowl team won the round-robin style Northern California Fall Regional Tournament, beating Palo Alto High and Menlo High for the title.
History Bowl captain senior Nick Chow was pleased at the victory his team achieved on Dec. 7; however, he said that his team should not get overconfident.
A separate individual competition was held alongside the team competition. Junior Bruce Lou scored first place, senior Hidehiro Anto from Menlo High got second and Chow finished third. In exchange for getting into the top three, the students qualified for the National History Bee in April.
The team was scheduled to compete next on Jan. 26 at a home meet against local teams. These “warm-up” competitions are, according to Chow, allowing the team to prepare for competition against national-caliber teams.
“Our next tournament is going to be a huge test of our growth, because we will potentially play Sameer Rai from Bellarmine, the reigning national champion,” Chow said. “We played him last season in December and we held up OK against him. Now we want to see how we measure up this year.”
