Instead of going to the computer lab to program, students in the AP Computer Science (APCS) classes this year are using new ThinkPad laptops funded by the district. The 35 laptops, which cost a total of $19,250, allow students to stay in one room for both lectures and programming instead of switching between the computer lab and the classroom.
“Now, it’s going to be more efficient because if students finish something they’re working on in the classroom early, they can get a computer and just go their desk and start programming right away,” APCS teacher Debra Troxell said.
IT Manager Julie Grenier thought that it was a good time for the AP Computer Science classes to have new laptops this year since the computers in room 301 were “getting old and breaking down last year a lot,” according to Troxell.
Junior Robin Osekowsky, who takes APCS, likes that the new laptops allow students to move around and work with whomever they want.
“It’s great that we each can have one to work on in class, and that they run better than the old computers,” Osekowsky said.
