Just one week before the school year began, Lisa Vlay saw an advertisement for the position of attendance secretary in the office. She applied, received the job and will work as attendance secretary for the school at least until January.
“I had taken a little bit of time off, and I was looking for a job to fill some hours because I was quite bored at home,” Vlay said. “I saw the position [at SHS] advertised, so I applied and got it.”
Vlay is filling in for Anna Ybarra, who is temporarily substituting for activities office secretary June Lamm. Lamm is on medical leave until January.
Vlay was the administrative coordinator for the football team at San Jose State University for over two years, after which she decided to take time off.
With help from attendance secretary Julia Peck, Vlay has quickly accustomed herself to her role in the office. Her experience with computers and the training she received at the district office facilitated her adjustment.
So far, Vlay’s favorite part of the job has been the students.
“It’s fun watching you guys come in and out, being kids,” Vlay said.
Vlay has two sons at the University of Colorado and a daughter in her senior year at Westmont High School.
