As a young boy, my mom told me I would always cry whenever she would force vegetables into my mouth. That makes a lot of sense, as I never ate vegetables and only ate my fruit dessert on a dinner table. I hate vegetables so much that I despise any form of it – raw or steamed.
If my mom calls me out for dinner and I encounter a table full of vegetables, I get chills and immediately walk back to my room. Broccoli, carrot, cucumbers, mushroom, zucchini — you name it — I hate every single one. For example, whenever I have my favorite fried rice, I dodge every single green pea as I eat. What taste value do they offer? They are not like fruits or snacks: Vegetables are not sweet. Do they even have any flavor within them?
How can people not cringe while eating bitter, crunchy foods? If I’m feeling generous, I might tolerate lettuce — but only when it’s been forced on me in the form of a hamburger. I have no clue how people can eat vegetables without quivering. Throughout my life, I know I’ll continue to encounter stomach-churning vegetables; but, for now, I’d rather stick to my comfort foods and let others enjoy their vegetables without me.
