The audience listened in awe as sophomore Varsha Horantur’s powerful voice echoed through every note of “Titanium” by David Guetta and Sia. The lyrics projected through the McAfee Center during this year’s Saratoga Idol singing competition in early December, echoing Harantur’s talent.

“I really felt like I was enjoying myself singing rather than nervously looking down at the audience,” Horantur said.

While Saratoga Idol was her most memorable performance, Horanter has also competed in the South Bay Teen Idol, making it to semifinals in both 2016 and 2017.

Additionally, she performs at various venues around the Bay Area for Indian classical every six months.

“My parents are very supportive,” Horantur said. “I got inspired by my mom, who is an amazing singer herself.”

She started singing when she was 5 and performing when she was 10.

Horantur performs Indian classical as well as pop songs, her favorite being anything by Beyoncé. She said that she feels really happy and content while singing.

“The thing I love most about singing is the freeness aspect of it,” Horantur said. “There are not too many technical details to worry about.”
