ASB meetings have been moved to take place during fifth period instead of during the evenings starting in November. They will occur during the first class of every month in the team room and are open to all students with free fifth periods, ASB president Nathon Chin said.
Additionally, each grade’s class representatives will be reaching out to non-Leadership class students before the meetings through social media and the daily announcements in order to get different opinions on school activities and policies.
Because the old meetings were taking place in the office every other Monday from 6 to 7 p.m., there was low attendance from non-Leadership students, as well as students in Leadership due to sports and other extracurriculars. The night meetings had begun this semester.
General student attitude seems to be mixed. While fifth-period meetings will benefit busy Leadership students who cannot attend night meetings, almost all students have classes during fifth period and cannot attend.
“It’s a bad move since many students have fifth periods,” junior Ian Le said.
However, Leadership teacher Matt Torrens left open the possibility that some evening meetings may continue being held.
“Our hope is that we can hold ASB meetings during fifth period and in the evenings throughout the year,” Torrens said. “Both will be open to anyone.”
