The upcoming season for the field hockey team includes several challenges. Since only five new players have joined the team and seven have graduated, the girls currently have a shortage of players. As of now, there are only five team members on JV field hockey, which is not enough to qualify as a team by itself.
Still, freshman Valentina Araya said, “We're probably going to be playing one man down, but we're hoping the JV team keeps going throughout the whole season.”
Varsity, on the other hand, appears to be entering the season strong. The goals for this season include making it far in CCS and beating Los Gatos. Six varsity players attended camps across the country over the summer and believe that with their new skills and team chemistry, this season will be a successful one. Their main concern is the amount of work the girls will have to do since there isn’t enough substitutes for the team.
“We don’t have a lot of subs this year, so we have to be more in shape,” Norris said. “But we are mostly all returning varsity players, and [we] are already really close, so we have really great team dynamic.”
