With the departure of assistant principal Kevin Mount comes the arrival of the current principal of Branham High School Brian Thompson, who will be taking Mount’s place as assistant principal for the upcoming year. The change in leadership will become effective July 1.
Thompson is already familiar with Saratoga High, as he is married to guidance counselor Mounique Young.
At Branham High, Thompson implemented a number of programs and changes benefitting the school. According to information released by the district, he introduced new courses, boosted the college acceptance rate and increased enrollment in AP classes.
Thompson also has much experience working with students who require assistance, such as special education students and English language learners. He attributes his interest in working at Saratoga High to its community-based culture and the prospect of being able to build relationships and give back to students.
Students welcome Thompson and are eager to see how the school will change and mature with a new presence on campus.
“Any new staff member most likely has the potential to improve the school in various ways,” junior Andrew Weng said. “That being said, Saratoga [is] a very different place, and I think it might take some getting used to before [Thompson] is comfortable.”
Mount will be working in the district office next year.
