Every minute of every day working in the Activities Office is packed full of tasks that need to get done. The second she steps into the office at 7:30 am, activities secretary Anna Ybarra, who has held the position of activities secretary since 2010, is in a race to take care of all financial aspects of the school and keep it functioning.
The first thing Ybarra does when she arrives at the office is go through her inbox and answer emails. Many of these emails include check requests, which need to be approved by an assistant principal.
“After the checks come back, I go through and get all the deposits ready,” Ybarra said. “Then I go to the bank to get all those completed. It’s a long process.”
Ybarra has also recently completed entering in all the ASB forms and processing all sports rosters. After taking in and verifying all of the sports forms, Ybarra emails the coaches and athletic directors to tell them who is cleared to try out. In addition, she processes all donations and payments given to the school, as well as answers phone calls throughout the day.
As the school day continues, students drift in and out of the Activities Office for “all sorts of reasons,” from purchasing parking permits and falcon apparel to just asking questions.
The Activities Office is also responsible for selling bids for all of the school dances. At these times, the office is packed with students.
Ybarra always has to be ready to handle the next big challenge in her job.
“It’s really busy in here since there’s not just one set thing that I do,” Ybarra said. “There’s a huge variety of things that need to get done, and it’s hard to list them all.”
