After last year’s advance to Division A, girls’ track has been motivated to finding new ways to improve and succeed for the new season.
Sophomore sprinter Eunju Pak is looking forward to getting to know people from other events who she rarely gets to meet. “I hope we do more team bondings, to get to know other runners and throwers better,” Pak said, “We don’t really get to talk to others who aren’t in the same event as us."
“Last year was a wake up period for the team,” coach Archie Ljepava said. “We were trying to get used to being in a new division so we were mostly just seeing what the competition was.”
Last season featured many injuries, dropping the number of active girls during meets. Sophomore 100 meter sprinter Laura Cummins believes the team should “try not to get injured as much this year, since a lot of people were hurt or couldn’t participate in events during meets last year.”
Senior jumper Melodie Bellegarda was one of many injured last season; however, despite this “huge disappointment,” Bellegarda has high hopes for the team this year.
“I’m going to be careful not to over train myself or pull something,” Bellegarda said. “Since this year will be the second in the Division A Track League, competition will definitely be tough so hopefully this will motivate all of us to give 100 percent at practices and at meets.”
Learning is the prime objective for the underclass-heavy team. “We’re going to improve and learn this season, and try our hardest to do well in our meets against other schools,” Ljepava said.
