The girls’ tennis team is set for a third showdown with rival Monta Vista this season in the final round of the CCS Championships on Nov. 16 at the Courtside Club in Los Gatos.
During the regular season Monta Vista had come away with two close 4-3 wins in the old format of four singles players and three doubles teams.
Saratoga, seeded second in the tournament, won 11-7 over third-seeded Archbishop Mitty on Nov. 14. No. 1 singles player senior Crystal Yen provided the vital tenth win in the game after defeating junior Kennedy Davis 6-1.
The girls won 12-3 over Sacred Heart Preparatory on Nov. 12 after rain postponed the match that was set for Nov. 11. Both coaches agreed to stop the match before the third and final round of doubles matches, as Saratoga had taken the win. Yen was not present during this match due to a tournament, so sophomore Usha Raman stepped up to take the No. 3 singles position.
The team beat Carlmont High 17-1 on Nov. 9. Regardless of the outcome on Nov. 16, both Saratoga and Monta Vista will participate in the CIF NorCal Championships on Nov. 18 and 19 in Sacramento, where they will revert to the old format of play used in the regular season.
