Among the class of 2015, seven student leaders have confidently stood up to become class officers. After a week of campaigning, the freshman class has elected Dani Bruno as its class president, Alex Kim for vice president, Nidhi Vellanki for treasurer, Neel Kattumadam for secretary and Sydney Torrens, Emily Penuen and Steven Faan for class representatives.
Continuing the effort to reduce voting indiscrepancies, the elections commission opted to return to the paper voting system. With a strong background of previously being involved with student government, Faan said that he “wants to be involved in helping to create school activities like past years.”
Kim, also having past student council experience, emphasized the significance of having and enjoyable year as the class finally settles into the Saratoga High environment.
“A goal I have in store is to make sure to encourage studying and working hard, but to also throw great dances and encourage students to have lots of fun,” Kim said.
This year’s promising freshman class officers look forward to a bright and hopeful year. As class president, Bruno’s main goals are to garner class spirit and to display a impressive Homecoming decorations and a wonderful Quad Day.
“I really want our freshman class to be involved and spirited,” said Bruno. “If we all work together on things like Homecoming, the people in our class will become really close and it will be fun.”
Bruno also said that the experience of being in class office would allow her to “be more involved in the school,” and to have a “great way to experience our class and to meet new people.”
In addition to class spirit, Faan stated the importance of staying on task as a unified class.
“In general, I plan for a great school year,” he said. “This means well-done, thoughtfully planned out class activities, efficient fundraisers and making sure that everyone does what they are responsible for.”
