‘Bosco twin’ subs for injured campus supervisor

During lunch, students might spot a guy who looks like assistant principal Joe Bosco in a casual wear. Many speculate that they are brothers, but in reality they are not. This “Bosco-twin” is actually Alfonso Gil Vasquez, who is subbing for campus supervisor Ben Cobarrubias, who is not working right now because of a back injury.

Few choose option to excuse own absences at 18

Forget playing it sick like Ferris Bueller when you want a day off—when students turn 18 in California schools, they are allowed to excuse their own absences. Under state law, students aged 18 and older have the option to assume all of the responsibilities and powers that are normally charged to the parent as a minor.

GATE program undergoes changes

Most students have been unaware of the fact that they are part of the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program, which provides funding for education opportunities for individuals identified as gifted and talented. This year, however, the program will change and not everyone will be considered gifted and talented.

Two incumbents win school board election

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District (LGSUHSD) school board election took place on Nov. 4. The election involved three candidates, incumbents Lorrie Wernick and Rosemary Rossi, and Saratogan parent Robert Zager, who vied for two positions. The winners were Wernick and Rossi.

Students win competition at local business camp

Sophomores Gabe Guido, Alex Sturge and Matt Cresci created a marketing plan for a kids’ juice drink to win a competition at a local business camp they attended this past summer. As a reward, they will be going to New York in January to present their ideas to company leaders.

Veterans Day lands, awkwardly, on a Tuesday

During those 10 straight weeks at the beginning of the school year, when there are no days off, the only thing that keeps students motivated is the presence of the Veterans Day holiday on Nov. 11. This year, the holiday fell on a Tuesday and must be observed on that day.

“Veterans Day is one of those holidays that just floats around through the week,” said principal Jeff Anderson.

New signs clarify parking lot driving

To combat the challenges regarding the flow of traffic in the parking lot, the school has installed new signs throughout the front parking lot signaling special traffic rules such as “One Way”, “Left Turn Only” and “Do Not Enter.”
For years, there have been faded out arrows along the roads indicating the direction cars should go in the parking lot. However, because of recurring traffic violations, the administration has put in new traffic signs to make these directions more visible.

New student from Australia joins Saratoga High community

Moving from city to city may seem hard to adjust to, but imagine moving to a completely different country. Freshman Sam Cokes had to go through this transition when he recently moved from Sydney, Australia to Saratoga.
