French Week feeds hungry students

A flock of students triggered serious traffic problems at the top of the quad steps Nov. 13, as French Club hosted their first school-wide event: National French Week Nov. 10-14. The students were there to get crepes being served by the club.

Mridula Nadamuni, the passive Japanese culture enthusiast

Senior Mridula Nadamuni, however, calmly yet enthusiastically tell you that while anime is fun, manga and doramas (Japanese live action dramas) are better.

Class cutting myth unveiled

Sometimes, due to blocked traffic on Highway 17 or other unforeseen circumstances, teachers are tardy to their own classes. While some students may bolt for the door immediately, others sit in apprehension—watching the clock and waiting, hoping and even praying for the minute hand to reach 15 minutes past the start of class: the magical moment when it’s OK for the class to leave without it being considered a cut. Right?

English teacher Bill Peck combines new and old

For English teacher Bill Peck, it seems as if all roads lead back to Saratoga. A former student who graduated from here in 1971, Peck now serves as an English teacher and coach of the school’s mock trial team in addition to being involved in the school’s drama department.

Calendar displays poetry students’ work

The Creative Writing: Poetry class has decided to create a calendar that includes the students’ poems, which were inspired by their recent field trip to Old Grandview Ranch, an awe-inspiring chateau of 25 acres located in the Saratoga foothills.

Students, faculty to attend inauguration

No matter who wins the presidential election Nov. 4, January’s inauguration of either the first African-American president or the first female vice president to the White House promises to be a landmark moment in American history. Thirty-seven juniors and seniors and staff members, including Principal Jeff Anderson; history teachers Kim Anzalone, Mike Davey and Matt Torrens; English teacher Erick Rector; Video Production teacher Tony Palma; and Health teacher Amy Obenour, will be present in Washington, D.C., for five days to witness this historic event.

Leadership continues food drive tradition

Marching band members continued their tradition of collecting food donations for Second Harvest Food Bank on their Senior Night, held Nov. 20. This year, leadership will also continue to help the hungry, said leadership adviser Karen Hyde.

Leadership will expand the charitable tradition by collecting food at band concerts throughout November. There are more opportunities to contribute to the cause in the duration of December.
