On Homecoming week of Oct. 8, expect to see Captain Jack Sparrow, Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes and Kevin McCallister all together on campus.
The overall theme this year is Tetralogy-land, which means that each series consists of four movies. Homecoming commissioners, senior Sanjna Verma and junior Stephanie Chu, underwent a long process before deciding on this universal theme.
Freshmen have the suburbs for “Home Alone,” sophomores have London for “Sherlock Holmes,” juniors have the jungle for “Indiana Jones” and seniors have the West Indies for “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
“Each of the themes has four movies in them and we wanted to pair them with a location so there was more [of an opportunity to decorate],” Verma said.
Freshman quad day will be on Oct. 9 at lunch and will be followed by the sophomore, junior and senior quad days from Oct. 10-12 respectively. Also on Oct. 12 will be the Homecoming football game against Homestead. The Homecoming dance is on Oct. 13.
While last year the school had a book drive to go with the theme of children’s stories, this year it will be donating to the charities supported by each movie’s leading actors. The Homecoming commission has not yet decided on the charities to donate to.
“Because the theme isn’t focused on one thing like last year, what we’re trying to do is, with the actors in each film, see what charities they sponsor and we’ll try to use those,” Chu said.
As usual, parents are not allowed to help with decorations. Homecoming is intended as an event for students to join together and work on quad decorations at students’ houses. In addition, students will practice on their own time to prepare for quad day dances and skits.
“[Students] should be ready to have a good time,” Verma said.  “Homecoming is more about the school coming together than the competition. Even though that is huge and everything, each grade level gets closer with each other, and it’s  really good way to start off the year.”
