School proceeds with minor renovations

Aside from larger projects such as the MAP building and the impending “The Court of Dreams,” SHS has enacted several minor renovations around campus.

The school has installed new trashcans, planter boxes, and flowers in the quad. Also, at the back of the school, a sidewalk has been constructed adjoining the back parking lot and Saratoga-Sunnyvale Ave.

SHS has the notorious reputation of resembling a prison. And, according to Assistant Principal Joe Bosco, these alterations will aid in the alleviation of this repute.

“The incentive is to make the school look better, be more appealing and be more inviting,” said Bosco. “This needs to be a school where students want to be.”

Changes to the trash cans and planter boxes have already begun in the quad, and the trend will continue to spread into the hallways and the front of the school.

According to Bosco, there are big plans for the future of the school. Due to budget cuts, renovations are a staggering financial burden for most school. However, with various donations, renovations are very much a possibility for SHS.

“The budget cut won’t affect any renovations,” said Bosco. “All the money that we raise through fees we use for the field, gym, and classrooms is pumped right back into the school.”

SHS utilizes their facilities fund as well as generous donations from various groups. The Foundation has funded $20,000 for the quad project, and the school plans to receive a bond that could provide the financial means to completely remodel the school.

“We are only in the planning stages [for renovating the entire school],” said Bosco. “We still need to be aware that when we spend money, we are not spending the money to lose it.”
