School finishes painting, renovates copy room over summer

For the maintenance crew, summer break passed in the blink of an eye as they worked tirelessly to improve various parts of the school.

After 14 months and several budget issues, the crew finally finished repainting the school over the summer. The walls have been painted an earth tone beige color, and the doors are now gray. 

“I think the paint job looks really good and has changed the look of the school,” plant operations supervisor Brian Moran said. “A few years back the students used to look at it and think of it as a prison building with the block buildings and flat roofs—not the most attractive architecture, but now the school looks great.” 

The crew also attached new bright red building numbers because the original ones had been painted over.

In addition, the crew also added new greenery between the music building and the weight room and widened the door to room 804 for easier access for various instruments.  

“Because the door is bigger, it’s more convenient for the percussion to move their marimbas through the door and makes the flow of band better,” said marching band member senior Justin Hang.

The big ticket project, according to Moran, was the renovation of the copy room. Renovations include replacing the lights, lowering the ceiling, swapping out carpet for a linoleum floor and replacing the windows.

“The machines made it really hot in there, but now it’s much more comfortable for everybody [now that the windows can be opened],” English teacher Natasha Ritchie said. “It feels like a real room now, not just a storage room that were were using as a makeshift copy room.”
