Lip Dub to be earlier this year

This year, the Lip Dub will be moved from its usual time during the spring to Dec. 6.

According to senior rally commissioner Risa Carter, Lip Dub will be replacing the December rally in order to meet instructional minute requirements. The change was made because hosting a rally would cut into the allotted minutes needed to complete the school year on time. 

In the Lip Dub, students line up along a predetermined route around the school, while student volunteers lip-sync to different songs as they walk the route. The footage captured by cameras that follow the students is then edited to overlay the original songs on top. It was originally started in the spring of 2017.

This year’s Lip Dub will be holiday-themed and will feature a mixture of holiday songs and mainstream popular music. Preparations are already well underway for the event.

“We have gotten the songs, we have posted sign-ups for the participants and we have mapped out how it’s going to be,” senior rally commissioner Mihir Bettadapur said. “So our next steps are going to be making flyers, announcing everything and making decorations.” 

While the changes will ensure that extra days don’t need to be added to the school year, ultimately benefiting students, many have mixed feelings about the dropping of the December rally. 

“It’s pretty disappointing,” senior Arman Rafati said. “In the rally, you get to band together with your class, and since I’m a senior, it’s one of our last times to do it. It’s sad, but at the same time, I really like the Lip Dub.”
