Still a young program, the lacrosse team is doing better against more established opponents.

The girls had mixed results recently against Gunn and Leland.

The girls faced Leland on April 25 and Gunn High School on April 27 away.

The Falcons did not start as strong as they would have liked, falling behind 4-0 in the first five minutes. However, they bounced back and won the game 17-10.

It was a different story at Gunn. The girls fought hard to keep up with the Titans, but lost 17-5.

The 4-7 Falcons had a busy week before spring break with three back-to-back games. In the last match of the week on April 11, the Falcons lost 12-6 against the Palo Alto Vikings, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the Santa Clara Valley League.

Although it was a tough loss, the girls are optimistic about the rest of the season.

“Proving from those last three games, we have gotten so much better since the beginning of the season. We have better flow and transition game, and I think we’ve all improved individually as well,” said junior defender Tiffany Zai.

Prior to the match against Palo Alto, the girls lost 19-17 to their rivals Los Gatos on April 10.

The Falcons led 6-0 in the first 10 minutes, but the Wildcats caught up shortly after at 8-6. The rest of the game was tense with each team getting goals one after another. Top scorers were senior attack Carolynn Choi with four goals and sophomore midfielder Ingrid Hong with six.

In the last five minutes, the Falcons almost caught up at 16-15. Unfortunately, the girls couldn’t make a comeback and lost a close match.

“One of the referees even said he’d pay admission to see that game again,” sophomore midfielder Risha Shah said.

Despite losing, the match was a big improvement from their game back in March where the girls lost to the Wildcats away 18-8.

“Although we didn’t get the win we wanted, we improved so much from the last time we played them,” said senior captain Shayda Khorasani.

On April 9, the Falcons started off the week with a 14-2 win against Sequoia High School at home. Previously, they beat Sequoia away 14-1 on March 16.

“The win was a good start off to a busy week. It helped us gain confidence for the rest of the week,” said junior attack Kristen Leung.

With positive attitudes in hand, the girls are hoping to finish the last week of the season strong.
