FBLA prepares to compete at Bay Section

FBLA tournament is nearing.

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club will be competing in the Bay Section Leadership Conference held on Feb. 4 at Homestead High School.

Events include taking a 60-minute test on material they’ve studied, speaking about business-related topics and presenting projects that emphasize the FBLA themes of service, education and progress. Approximately 20 members will be attending the conference.

Last year, 14 members placed at Bay Section, and  three qualified for the State Leadership Conference. While most events start at the Bay level, some start at the state level due to a lack of competitors. Last, four members ended up placing at states, of whom three advanced to nationals in Atlanta.

For example, the Mobile Application Development team comprises of junior Caitlyn Chen, who qualified to nationals last year in this very event, robotics member sophomore Bassil Shama and sophomore Alexandra Li. In addition, competitors in speaking events have experience from speech and debate.

The Parliamentary Procedures team, including senior co-captains Lesley Huang and William Hu and sophomores Elaine Fan, Mackenzie Lee and Hanlin Sun, also expects to make SLC.

“I have very high hopes for our performance at Bay Section and I think many members will qualify for states this year,” Huang said.
