Going from the bottom of the league standings to second place in the competitive DeAnza league, the boys’ varsity soccer team made a lot of progress throughout the season, letting the consistent wins speak for themselves.

The team has showed its superiority in the league by remaining undefeated for five straight games.

In their most recent game on Jan. 27 against Gunn, they cruised through with an easy 4-0 win. Junior right-mid Fred Feyzi, sophomore right back Will Guy, freshman left midfielder Komdean Masoumi and junior forward Erik Martin all scored goals.

On Jan. 25, the Falcons beat league rival Mountain view 1-0. Junior forward Keaton Matusich scored the only goal of the match with a header off of a ball into the box by senior left back Stan Ho. The Falcons snapped the Spartans’ 22 league game unbeaten streak.

On Jan. 23, the Falcons took on the Mustangs at Homestead. The game resulted in a 2-1 win for Saratoga, with both goals scored in the second half by sophomore defender Nikhil Goel and senior midfielder Jonathan Junqua.

The team will face Palo Alto in their next league game on Feb. 3.

The team is currently in second place trailing Mountain View with a record of 5-2-1. In order to qualify for CCS they will need to maintain one of the top two places in the league.

“We are clearly the best team in the league and we should have no problem winning the rest of our games,” Junqua said.
