Coming from behind from an early 1-0 deficit, the field hockey team defeated Gilroy 2-1 in the CCS quarterfinal matchup on Nov. 5.

“The team showed a strong mentality to not only go down early but to come back and win, score two goals and dominate the second half,” coach Nanu Sidhu said.

Though trailing, the Falcons kept their intensity high and tied the game with a goal in the first half by senior forward Kesley Kinoshita, assisted by senior defender Maxine Parr. In the second half, senior forward Tina Miller put the team in the lead with another goal. With a strong defense, the Falcons shut out the Mustangs from scoring again.

The team is set to face St. Francis in the semifinals on Nov. 9 at Del Mar High School. Though they defeated St. Francis in last season’s CCS quarterfinal round, earlier this season the Falcons lost to the Lancers 3-1.

“They are a really skilled team, and if we don’t do the simple things right then we will struggle,” Miller said. “I think as long as everyone’s on the same page and everyone’s moving as a unit then we will be able to win and move onto the next round.”
