On Feb. 1. the Application Development Club recently released new updates to the iOS version of the SHS app. The project was led by freshmen Patrick Li and Daniel Bessonov.

“We redesigned the whole app,” Li said. “Originally, it used Objective C as its language, but Apple came out with a new language — Swift. So we decided to change the [software].”

The change to Swift has allowed the addition of new features.

“There were some features missing from the old app, such as the planner,” Li said. “Overall we just wanted to make it easier for the user to access information.”

Major updates to the app include the addition of a list of important school event dates, a progress bar indicating the amount of time remaining for the current period and a planner tab. In addition, the Spotlight design for the news tab was improved and the “About Me” tab was replaced by a "Grades" button that redirects the app user to either Aeries, Canvas or Naviance.

The updated app was in development for over five months before it was officially released.

App Dev co-president Aakash Thumaty, a senior, said the tireless effort of the freshmen was appreciated greatly throughout the club.

“The new update will improve the way our app functions and looks, and it was very impressive work completed by our team,” Thumaty said.
