The girls were not able to make it to stateGirls on the school’s coed wrestling team branched out to compete in the girls SCVAL and CCS meets in late February. Freshmen Rebecca Boscow and Solbee Li, sophomore Meher Haider and junior Irene Frazier all advanced from SCVAL to CCS. All the girls were able to place third at the league tournament in their respective weight brackets. Only Boscow and Haider won their first matches and were able to advance to the second day of CCS. On the second day, both went 0-2 and were eliminated in their respective brackets. After the two-day CCS tournament held at Watsonville High, none of the girls continued to the state finals. Though the results were disappointing to the athletes, this was the first year any of the girls qualified for CCS. Haider said she grew a lot this season, and viewed the CCS tournament as an eye-opening experience. “It was very nerve-wracking, but it was really fun, as I was able to learn different techniques from other wrestlers, and I felt I bonded with many of the girls there,” said Haider. To prepare for next year, the wrestlers plan on taking judo classes and joining a girl’s wrestling club during the offseason. Boscow hopes to not only make CCS next year, but to be able to bring home a medal as well. “Meher and I both have improved a lot this season, and we are very proud of what we have accomplished this year,” Boscow said. 12 views this weekAbout the contributorsMitchell ChenMitchell Chen, Class of '24, is a Backpage Editor for the 2023-2024 staff.
