2022 will be remembered as a year of celebrity infidelities

December 18, 2022 — by Ariel Zhou and Parav Manney
From Adam Levine to Ned Fulmer, infidelity among celebrities has caused many public scandals and splits this year.

Hollywood has been rocked this past year with romantic scandals played out in the spotlight. 2022 has proved that even the world’s most beloved stars aren’t safe from the trials and tribulations of internet scandal.

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo’s marriage on the skids

Jumping straight into hot water, we have Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and supermodel Behati Prinsloo. Married in 2014 with two daughters, the seemingly happy couple announced in September that Prinsloo was pregnant with their third child. Just days after, Instagram model Summer Stroh went public with receipts of messages from a conversation with Levine.

One message from Levine read, “Ok serious question. I’m having another baby and if it’s [a] boy, I really wanna name it Sumner. You ok with that? DEAD serious.”

Following Stroh’s posts, numerous women came forward with their own stories. Levine immediately tried to shut down affair rumors, stating on his Instagram story: “I used poor judgment in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner. I did not have an affair. Nevertheless, I crossed the line during a regrettable period in my life.”

In direct response to the singer’s statement, Stroh posted, “Someone get this man a dictionary,” opposing Levine’s claims of never having a physical affair with any other woman.

Though this scandal has slowly moved out of the public eye, Levine stated in his apology, “My wife and my family are all I care about in this world,” holding himself accountable for his actions.

“I take full responsibility. We will get through it. And we will get through it together.”

Ned Fulmer falls from grace

Try Guys is a group of four friends who all started out at BuzzFeed making comedy videos about attempting daring activities, eventually moving their platform to YouTube and gaining more than 8 million subscribers. One of the Try Guys, Ned Fulmer, was known as the “wife guy,” since he was the first to be married and the first to become a father of two children, Wesley and Finn.

Their seemingly perfect relationship came crashing down when Ned was seen cheating on his wife Ariel with Try Guys producer Alex Herring. Fulmer was sighted making out with Herring at a New York City bar, and fans began noticing he was appearing in fewer videos. The group confirmed all the speculations and rumors when they posted on Instagram announcing that both Fulmer and Herring had been fired from the company.

Following the announcement, Fulmer posted, “Family should have always been my priority, but I lost focus and had a consensual workplace relationship. I’m sorry for any pain that my actions may have caused to the guys and the fans but most of all to Ariel. The only thing that matters right now is my marriage and my children, and that’s where I am going to focus my attention.”

The Try Guys later came out with a YouTube video titled “what happened.” explaining the entire situation and what actions were being taken by the company. In the video, Keith Habersberger, another member of the Try Guys, confirmed that Fulmer and Herring’s relationship “had been going on for some time, which was obviously very shocking to us.” The Try Guys also explained that they had already filmed content with Fulmer in it, and would be editing him out of their coming videos. They also explained that some videos are “fully unreleasable” simply due to Fulmer’s appearance in them.

Ariel has since posted that she and Fulmer are focusing on themselves and their family right now, and “all we request right now is that you respect our privacy for the sake of our kids.”

TikTok star’s parents act like teenagers

While these two names may not ring a bell, their daughter’s definitely will. Easterling and Lopez are parents of TikTok star Addison Rae and were caught in a very public drama-filled scandal earlier this year. In July, videos posted on TikTok showed Rae’s father Monty Lopez, touching and FaceTiming with another woman. He had allegedly been carrying out a 5-month affair with the woman, an influencer named Renée Ash.

In an interview with Page Six, Ash claimed Lopez had led her to think their relationship was meaningful by assuring her that his relationship with his wife was over, even when it wasn’t.

“He told me that we were going to be together and have babies together,” Ash stated. “He told me a story of his marriage that convinced me that they were apart and in the process of getting a divorce.”

In early July, Easterling posted on her Instagram story, “Personal matters being brought public are always challenging and overwhelming for anyone involved.” She continued by stating, “I will be okay. My biggest concern is — and always will be — my children and their fragile hearts and minds.” Easterling also added the phrase “single mom” into her Instagram around this time, making it clear that she and Lopez had split.

A month later, Easterling and American rapper Yung Gravy began a public relationship over TikTok. They made their red carpet debut in late August at the 2022 MTV VMAs. Soon after, Lopez responded in a series of TikToks and other social media posts shading the new couple. Their short-lived relationship ended in October, and many share the opinion that Rae and Easterling acted immaturely.

In the never-ending limelight of social media, entertainers are falling into relationship controversies that seem to be never-ending. There have been many other cheating allegations pinned on celebrities this past year, though many remain mere speculation. While watching our most adored couples split or get caught in these scandals was heartbreaking, let’s face it: From the celebrities’ perspectives, it must be hard when the public can so easily see all the ins and outs of their personal relationships.
