Centered on the theme of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the freshmen performed their first quad day of their high school careers in the large gym this Tuesday. With around 40 performers, the Class of ‘29 quad day saw higher participation compared to last year’s freshman performance.
Unpredictable weather forecasted on the day of the performance forced the freshmen to shift their performance into the main gym. Despite this setback, Mahika Shandilya, the Bollywood choreographer, said that the freshmen were able to adapt and adjust their dance formations to the smaller space fairly quickly.

The skit, coordinated by Avani Vijay, centered around the Oompa Loompas — played by Courtney Lee, Kaylan Shab, Brielle Clement, Alexandra Wyatt and Michelle Pham — workers at the titular factory finding ingredients for a new chocolate treat recipe. They sourced their ingredients from different parts of the world, leading into dances like Bollywood and K-pop.
The dances kicked off with the girls’ dance, choreographed by Ariana Lau, followed with Bollywood choreographed by Shandilya, K-pop choreographed by Ella Yang and concluded with the group dance choreographed by Lau and Ashlyn Hoang.
The Bollywood dance featured songs including “Desi Boys,” “Desi Girls,” and “1234 Get on the Dance Floor.”

For freshman Kavish Shah, a Bollywood dance performer, quad day held much more meaning than he had initially expected. The energy in the gym was very rewarding for him.
“I feel like the energy and the vibes throughout the whole day and lunch was super cool. I love cheering people on. Everybody’s connected together,” Shah said.

The K-pop dance highlighted songs including “Touch” by KATSEYE and “Chk Chk Boom” by Stray Kids.
Yang was proud of the freshmen’s performance and felt like all their hard work and dedication had paid off with a successful performance.
“[The biggest reward] was meeting lots of different people, getting to know everyone and making new friends. It was honestly really amazing and really fun,” Yang said.
