Girls’ Golf: Falcons fly high, with three players making it to CCS

The girls’ golf team turned a rebuilding season into a winning one, a positive experience for not only the veterans but also the rookies. After romping through the league tournament on Oct. 26 and claiming second place, the Falcons sent three players to CCS, all of whom will return to the team next year.

“It’s awesome to have three players from our school, not known for golf, to go to CCS,” coach David Gragnola said.

The three golfers were sophomores Sachi Verma and Halle Champion and junior Sara Pettersson.

All three of the golfers struggled in CCS on Nov. 1. The girls played on a very difficult course, Ranch Canada where the par is set at 72 while Champion shot a 95, while Verma shot a 103 and Pettersson shot a 106.

All three scores were good, but all but three golfers failed to place in CCS.

“It was awesome to see the girls really go out and compete and show off their talent and knowledge of the game,” Gragnola said.

Despite the golfers’ inability to capture any major CCS honors, the team feels that simply having three players qualify for the tournament which was an improvement over last season, in only a few players went, one of which was captain Uttara Sivaram.

Although the girls lost, they enter the off-season with high hopes and ambitions with both rookies and veterans determined to improve for next season.

“I’m going to work diligently this offseason and come next season, I hope my work will show itself,” sophomore Nikki Thareja said.

The starting players, all of whom will return look forward to competing again next year and winning league.

“I’m confident in all our players and next year, we are going to really show the whole league [we can win],” Gragnola said.
