The boys’ water polo team won two major victories last week, starting with an 8-6 win over Wilcox High Oct. 18. In addition, the boys’ water polo team won 16-13 at home over its undefeated rival Lynbrook on Oct. 20.

Having lost their first games against both teams earlier in the season, the Falcons felt redeemed and ecstatic after their big wins in what many players described as “the most decisive week of the season.”

“It feels incredible,” senior driver Eric Wang said. “It’s like I’m dating Selena Gomez and Mila Kunis at the same time.”

At Wilcox, sophomore utility Stephen Cho scored three goals, junior driver Tyler Tanaka and junior hole set Neal Siganporia each scored two and senior driver Tyler Borch scored one. Tanaka attributed victory to well-played defense as well as many key steals that led to a solid offense.

Against Lynbrook, Wang, Cho and Borch each scored three goals, Tanaka scored two goals, Siganporia scored four and senior two meter defender Nicolas Doyen scored one.

“The key to victory was using our entire six-man offense instead of relying on our best player, Stephen Cho,” Siganporia said. “The rivalry is extremely high because we are among the three best teams [along with Wilcox] in the league, and our games always determine the winners of the league.”

The team’s season-long goal has been to qualify for CCS. In order to achieve the goal, the Falcons must win their next two league games against Cupertino and Fremont on Oct. 25 and Oct. 27 respectively.

In addition, the boys will have to win against Wilcox and Lynbrook again in a league tournament at Lynbrook on Oct. 29. According to Siganporia, the team should have no difficulty winning the rest of its league games. However, the league tournament may prove to be a tough challenge.

Despite the high stakes to make it to CCS in the games up ahead, Wang feels that the team has already come a long way in achievements.

“I’m proud of how far we’ve come,” Wang said. “In the beginning of the season we were definitely underachieving, and now we’re playing almost at the level we’re capable and really proving ourselves and showing everyone how good we are.”
