Photography Club’s first exhibition at the Saratoga Library

Visitors to the Saratoga Public Library in February may have noticed the breathtaking photography displayed for all library-goers to enjoy. 

For their first gallery exhibition ever, the Photography Club’s finest work was shown on the walls of the study room at the Saratoga Public Library.

Club members were asked to submit a maximum of three of their favorite photos that they had taken over the year, and every photo was hung for everyone to see. In total, 15 photos by senior co-presidents Todd Nguyen and Angela Luu, senior Kristen Zung, juniors David Sparkman and Janey Heyman and freshman Uday Singh were selected.

Zung came up with the idea and asked for permission for the club to display their artwork. The library staff granted approval for and gave them the slot for the month of February.

Members of the club had to adjust to new circumstances: They were required to frame, wire and work with the library to get hanging extensions from which the photos would be displayed on the wall.

“A lot of us usually just do photography digitally, so framing it and arranging it was different,” Nguyen said. “Personally, I felt really self-conscious, because I thought a lot more about the content of my photos after it was posted publicly for strangers to see.”

Although club members had to step out of their comfort zones, the overall exhibition was a success.

“I am extremely proud of all the photographers who contributed their work to the gallery,” senior co-president Angela Luu said, “and feel that we were extremely successful in getting out work displayed and publicized.”
