A handful of students had the chance to tell school board members how disappointed they were by history teacher Jim Chin’s departure from the school at a meeting on June 3.

During the public portion of the meeting, freshman Sarah Jin, sophomores Farbod Moghadam and Kelly Xiao, juniors Rohith Krishna and Sudeep Raj and the mother of junior Kevin Chiang spoke about why they believe Chin should continue teaching here. Each of them presented to principal Paul Robinson and other board members.

“Although they were not allowed to respond to us, I could tell by their body language that they were listening,” Moghadam said. “Some of them seemed like they were sympathizing with us.”

Although the district has given no indication that Chin might be rehired, students continue to have his reinstatement as their goal.

“Talking to the board is the strongest thing we can do that is within our power as students,” Moghadam said. “Only time will tell what they decide, and we just have to sit and wait.”
