Girls' water polo team looks to advance further in CCS than last year.

Sport: Girls’ Water polo

Coach: Nick Berg

Last season's record: 7-5

Last season, the girls’ water polo team finished third in the De Anza League, despite season-long pool problems. The Falcons ended their season with a loss to Los Gatos in overtime. “[We] performed much better than expected,” said senior Madison Gress.

Even though they moved up a league, the team advanced to CCS for the first time since 2006, and made it to the quarter-finals, where it lost to Soquel 6-2.

“We had a really good season with strong team orientation and a focus on team plays and skills,” said senior Amanda Moriarty. “Our practiced paid off [when] we made it to CCS.”

This year, they will rely on key players to lead to the team to success. These will include seniors Madison Gress, Mackenzie Rosenthal, Puck de Roos, Amanda Moriarty and junior Alexa Frieberg. Key additions to the team will be sophomores Jesse Liu, Kailyn Koerber and Kanika Vora.

“[We hope to have] strong team relationships,” said senior Amanda Moriarty.

The team is looking forward to facing Los Gatos, Palo Alto and Monta Vista. The team hopes to win against Los Gatos, and qualify for CCS once again.

“[We hope] to advance further than last year,” Gress said.
