For the past four years, the Lancers have made it into CCS finals, but this year, in an upset, it’s the Falcons’ turn. After a 2-1 home victory on Nov. 18, the Falcons are heading to the finals for a showdown against rival Los Gatos.

Early in the seventh minute of the game, the Lancers scored off a hard shot into the right corner of the net, but only one minute later Saratoga responded with a goal of its own to tie it up. Speedy senior co-captain Kelly Darchuk dribbled by the St. Francis defense on breakaway down the right side of the field and crossed the ball to senior Claire Marsh, who tipped it past the St. Francis goalie.

Later in the first half, senior co-captain Laura Ruddy scored a goal off of an assist by sophomore Ren Norris to take the lead, and Saratoga held on for the victory.

The Falcons will play the Wildcats for the CCS title at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Willow Glen High School. At the beginning of the season, the teams tied 1-1 at Benny Price field. The most recent game, Saratoga played at Los Gatos and lost 3-1.
