2015 Spring Fling festivities come to a close

On Monday, March 30, students arrived to school decked out in red, blue, white and military gear, excited for the upcoming annual Spring Fling festivities. For the remaining days of the week, students participated in a vareity of Spring Fling related activities.

“There are a lot of opportunities for people to different things [during Spring Fling Week] since there are so many ways people can interpret the costumes,” senior ASB head commissioner Anshika Maheshwari said. “Personally, I wanted to dress up because I love going all out for spirit days and it’s going to be my last time to dress up in high school.”

During lunch periods throughout the week, students also filled the bleachers to watch their classes battle it out during the Powderpuff football games.

On Tuesday, the juniors defeated the freshmen, and on Thursday, the sophomores and freshmen played a consolation round, ending with a surprising twist: The freshmen defeated the sophomores 6-0.

“Almost all of our entire starting lineup was on the MAP [field] trip [to LinkedIn headquarters],” sophomore coach Kerem Celik said. “Because of that, it was harder to use some of the plays and strategies we initially had in mind.”

The heated juniors vs. seniors game took place on Friday. The seniors, who beat the Class of ‘14 in last year’s Spring Fling week, emerged victorious once again, with the score 6-0. Senior Anisha Nagarajan scored the winning touchdown.

“I was proud of how the girls played and how the coaches were encouraging and kept a positive attitude,” said junior class president Darby Williams, who also participated in Powderpuff. “Honestly, we weren’t too sad that we lost, but just more proud of how we played.”

Students also crowded into the Large Gym during Friday tutorial for the annual Spring Fling rally, which followed James Cameron’s “Avatar” theme and included many entertaining games, such as “Hungry Hippos,” where players caught bouncy balls in baskets while laying on skateboards, and field hockey on rollerskates.

“[The rally] was a great way to end the week,” sophomore Julia Vita said, who participated in the field hockey activity. “I loved the opportunity to represent my class while also having a good time.”
