In the movies, twins are typically depicted as inseparable. They may be identical in physical appearance, temperament and even supernatural intuition, called twin telepathy.
Unfortunately, Rani Khanna and Krishen Khanna say they have grown up without twin superpowers. They share a normal sibling bond along with their older sister Raya, who also attended Saratoga High. In fact, Rani and Krishen have many more differences than similarities.
“Rani is more calm and collected, while I’m kind of crazy,” Krishen said. “I feel like she’s more detail oriented, but I just kind of like, go with the flow.”
Rani was born two minutes earlier than Krishen, giving her bragging rights as the older of the fraternal twins. The two were mostly separated in elementary school and middle school classes, due to concerns about twins being too dependent on each other. However, Krishen and Rani’s lives naturally took divergent paths because they have different personalities and interests.
Rani is interested in a STEM profession, and she is involved in extracurriculars like Green Team and Women in STEM. She also started her own jewelry business.
For his part, Krishen is interested in a completely different career path: law. This led to his participation in Model UN and similar clubs.
Despite their different interests and deviating future paths, Rani and Krishen still have silly childhood memories like any other pair of siblings.
In preschool, the two used to have a game called “Punch Buggy,” where they would punch each other when they saw a tiny buggy car. Rani remembers having to go home to change her shirt because Krishen punched her in the face.
“But I don’t do that anymore,” Krishen said.
During the college application process, Rani applied only to in-state schools. Krishen applied to more out of state schools, particularly in the East Coast.
Rani plans on attending California State Polytechnic University, Pomona for biology, while Krishen will be attending Syracuse University for law, society and policy.
